About
Sri. K. Sreenivasan (1941–2026) gave more than five decades of his life to the cause of bank workers across India. A man of deep conviction and quiet strength, he served employees and retirees alike with a dedication that left an enduring mark on the labour movement — and on the many lives he touched along the way.
One of the tallest and most respected leaders of the bank retirees' movement in India, he served his colleagues — active and retired — with unwavering dedication for over five decades. His contribution to the cause of bank retirees was invaluable and will always be remembered with gratitude.

A life of service
He began his union career as an employee of the State Bank of Travancore (SBT), rising through the ranks to lead the bank employees' movement in Kerala. As AIBEA Assistant Secretary, he participated in numerous bilateral negotiations with the Indian Banks' Association. He was among the signatories to the landmark 7th Bipartite Settlement, alongside Comrades N. Sampath and Tarakeshwar Chakravarti.
He played a key role in agitations at Gramin Bank, Federal Bank, KDCC Bank, and Nedungadi Bank. His contributions in introducing pension in commercial banks and computerising commercial banks remain historic milestones. He led the charge when bank employees fought to secure pension rights — and continued that fight as a retiree.
After retiring from SBT in 2001, he dedicated himself fully to the bank retirees' movement. His leadership of AKBRF became a model for other states. He organised private sector bank retirees under the AIBRF banner, built the AKBEF headquarters near the KSRTC Bus Stand in Ernakulam, and established the AKBRF state committee office at North Ernakulam Railway Station. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he kept the organisational leadership active through continuous online expert-led programmes — widely noticed at the national level.
Family
He is survived by his wife Omana, son Anoop (US), daughter Anooja (Bangalore), daughter-in-law Brinda (US), and son-in-law Bibin (Bangalore).

Selvin John
AKBRF Idukki District Secretary
My association with Sreenivasan Sir began in 1989, when I was the district Vice Chairman of AKBEF. He was always a role model and guide for me in organisational activities. His advice and counsel will continue as a guiding light in my work ahead.
He had a special love and regard for Idukki district. It was he who inaugurated the AIBEA Bhavan at Thodupuzha. He fought for pension updation for years without seeing the fruit of that struggle.
His passing is an irreparable loss to the bank retirees' movement. No one can replace Sreenivasan Sir today.

So shocking to hear the news — it is indeed a sad day to the bank employees and retirees alike. Com. Sreenivasan dedicated his entire life to the cause of bank employees and retirees. He is a towering figure and his name will be ever remembered in the trade union movement of bank employees and retirees. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
S. C. Jain
General Secretary, AIBRF
Demise of Respected Sreenivasan Sir is shocking and unbearable news for me. He was ideal and an inspiring force for all of us in our movement. I do not have adequate words to express my grief. I was lucky to meet him in Bangalore recently but with no clue that it would be the last darshan. Bank retiree movement has lost a towering leader.
— Om Shanti
Kasaragod District Committee, AKBRF
K. V. Gangadharan, District Secretary
Com. Sreenivasan is no more with us. The light has gone. He was a towering personality, who passed away at the age of 85 from his daughter's house at Bangalore.
He worked tirelessly, utilising his full ability to protect and help bank employees at large. During agitations in Gramin Bank, Federal Bank, KDCC Bank, and Nedungadi Bank, he played a key role. His contributions in introducing pension in commercial banks and in introducing computers in commercial banks will be remembered forever. He was there with Sampath and Tharak to sign the 7th Bipartite settlement.
After retirement he worked for the All India Bank Retirees Federation, serving as All India Chairman and Kerala State General Secretary until his last day. It was he who was behind formulating our demands. He built the AKBEF state committee office at South Ernakulam and the AKBRF office at North Ernakulam. He also gave one lakh rupees from the AKBRF fund — with Central Committee approval — to the Solace Charity Organisation. Such was his generosity.
The Kasaragod District Committee met on 13 May 2026 and paid homage to Com. Sreenivasan. The meeting was chaired by President Madhava Bhat. District Secretary K. V. Gangadharan spoke. Giridhar Raghavan, Karunakaran, Suresh T, Madhavan Nair, and Damodaran participated in the discussion.
HDFC Bank Retirees' Association
Kerala's bank employees and retirees looked up to Sreenivasan Sir as a pride and beacon. His contributions to AIBEA and AKBRF in bringing them to their current stature are immeasurable. We shall move forward on the path he showed, through his memories.

The news of the passing of dear Sreenivasan Sir — eminent leader of AIBRF, India's largest bank retirees movement, and General Secretary of the All Kerala Bank Retirees Federation — came as a complete shock this evening.
His role in organising and nurturing the bank retirees movement to its present standing is immense. My association with Sreenivasan Sir began in 1989, when I was District Vice Chairman of AKBEF. In every aspect of organisational work, he was always my model and guiding light.

The departure of Sreenivasan Sir — the pride of Kerala's bank employees and retirees — is a severe blow. His contribution to bringing AIBEA in Kerala, and later AKBRF, to their present standing is immeasurable. Let us move forward through the paths he lit for us, carrying his memory.

I did not know Sreenivasan Sir before joining Indian Overseas Bank. When I received the SBT interview call, my father — an early CPI worker — told me: "Go there, we have our people." With Sreenivasan Sir's assurance, I joined SBT, left IOB, and became active in the union. What followed was nearly thirty-five years of closeness.
I learned to speak and write from Sreenivasan Sir. Two poetry collections, a music album, a short-story collection — all carry his inspiration. Today, on hearing the news of his passing, I took up this pen as a feeble solace.
I do not say farewell, Comrade... Go be with my father. Continue your organisational work in that unseen world. We shall meet there soon.
